BirdLife Australia’s Birds n’ Bickies is back for another summer of monthly meet-ups designed to help you learn more about the amazing shorebirds within the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary.
The Birds n’ Bickies program is in its third year and has been popular with those new to shorebirds as well as those with some knowledge. It’s a chance to come out and view the birds while learning from each other in a relaxed and fun environment.
All are welcome to join.
This year there have been themes chosen for each session. As in past years, you are welcome to attend all three sessions with the view of improving your skills or you may choose to come along to a single session.
Dates and times:
- Sun 12th Jan. 2020 8:30 – 11am (Theme: General Wader Info & ID)
- Sun 16th Feb. 2020 8:30 – 11am (Theme: Test your ID Skills)
- Sat 14th March 2020 8:30 – 11am (Theme: Citizen Science)
Location:
Thompson Beach Shed, which is 150m from the end of Ruskin Road on the left. Meet at the Shed for directions on where Birdlife Australia will be set up to see the birds.
You’ll meet at high-tide when it is the best time to view the birds.
Telescopes and extra binoculars will be available.
Approximately 1 hour will be spent on the beach and then you’ll head back to ‘The Shed’ for morning tea, catered for by the Thompson Beach Progress Association.
What to bring?
Binoculars or telescope and Shorebird ID booklet (if you have them). Hat, sunscreen, bug spray, water.
